-What is Small's main point?
I beleive Christopher Small's is trying to make the point that music is more than just what we hear coming out of our earbuds, or our radio, or what we see on a sheet oof paper. Music is an action, it's a verb not a noun. Music makes you have emotions, it makes you get up and move, music is inspiring. Music is a talent for some, it's a gift. Music is what brings us closer to people. It helps us to relate to other. It's so much more than "just music". Music is a beautiful part of life.
-How does he define the term "musicking"?
Any way that we take in music. From musical performance, songwriting, dancing, the people that take part in helping music happen in any way, shape, or form. Musicking is "to music".
-Is this concept different than how you usually think about music? If so, how?
I feel like I already agree with the bulk of everything that was said but, I also think he has many valid points that opened my eyes. Music is such a huge part of my life, I couldn't tell you the last day I went without singing a song, or humming, listening to the radio or my phone. I've never heard the term "musicking" before but I feel like it is such a valid term.
-Are you into this idea, or is it bogus? Why?
Yes, I'm 100% into it. I get it, I believe it, let's go for it. It's a real true thing. I could see someone who isn't into music, or someone who isn't musical, or someone who just doesnt like music in general I can see how they could think this is bogus. Music is an escape, it brings hope, it makes you happy. Music has so many different levels and thats why I agree with this idea.
