In this blog I am going to talk about the traditional styles of Chinese Theatre. The two types I am going to focus on are Bunraku and Kabuki. I'm going to share some facts and my thoughts and opinions on which style I am drawn more towards. So.. let's start with my favorite style first..
Bunraku- Above is some history on Bunraku, It is a style of theater where puppeteers control a pupet to tell a story instead of using actors. I think the reason I found this so interesting was because I can only imagine how difficult it would be for me to master this craft. In the video we watched the man was talking about feeling the emotion he wanted the puppet to feel and the other two puppeteers had to feel the same emotion at the same time so everything would flow smoothly. I think for me personally I would be so into the puppet and watching every move and the performance of music added to that would make it more intense and draw me in even more. This is something I would really love to be able to see one day. I am going to add a few more pictures to show you more about what exactly Bunraku is.
The next style of Chinese Theater I want to talk about is Kabuki
Kabuki- Was the type of theatre I was less intrigued by. I thought it was cool when it started out as women in tea houses kind of like a burlesque show. Then they went more into detail about how the women were more than just performers and I was like okay... maybe not what I had in mind. None the less I think this would be such a fun show to go be a part of and experience the culture. I could imagine how the music would play a huge part and almost tell a story in this kind of performance and it would be really neat to see! Here are a few more pictures that I think represent Kabuki well...
