I chose to do my song analysis on Maren Morris' "My Church"
This song is in a major key
The song has drums, guitars, tamborine, keyboard, lead vocal, back up vocals.
This song has a 4/4 tempo.
The song is consonant. And it is a homophonic texture.
The song is relatively static.
The main hook in the song is in the chorus when she says "Can I get a hallelujah, can I get an amen."
The melody and rythm are one of my favorite parts of this song.
I like this song because it has a gritty, soulful sound to it. It sounds more like old-school country defintley not like the new "bro country" sound that I am not a fan of. I also like the contrast between the verses and the chorus. Also, the lyrics, the lyrics, the lyrics! I love the references to Hank Williams and Jonny Cash and "Cold Cold Heart" and "Ring of Fire". I feel like that helps draw listeners in. The song is about what you feel driving around in your car listening to your favorite songs. I know for me this is something I LOVE to do. I have grown up here in Nashville and since I got my license one of my favorite things to do whether it's sunny, night time, or I just need to clear my head is get in the car and drive to leipers fork and downtown Franklin and all kinds of back roads. I love how she made a song that most people can relate to. And she is defintley someone that I would be on the look out for this year.
